True story, I was high school class of '77 and we were trying to find a class song. This clueless but nice guy (from another country) suggested this for our senior song. We told him, you can't just pick a song you LIKE!. Has to have a theme lol.

I was 19 when this song came out and it was HUGE. Still to this day I think they look so sharp in their vests and everyone was impressed with his moves and tried to copy him. After a while he just started getting a lot of hate. I've seen that happen to a few entertainers. It's happening to JLo right now, huge to hated. The band Nickleback also, huge then hated. I love me some Rob Van Winkle <3

In terms of rock with minor-to-moderate elements of country, I think The Eagles of the early-to-mid-1970s were the best fusion of that sound and still are. I don't think you have done too many Eagles songs, if at all, but I also know they are notorious reaction channel blockers. Already Gone is a great example of country rock. Take It To The Limit is another favourite of mine by them. When party time guitarist Joe Walsh joined them in the late 1970s they became more rock oriented and put the masterpieces Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane and New Kid In Town. Speaking of Joe Walsh, his solo hit Life's Been Good So Far is a fun song with great music and funny, self-deprecating humour by Joe.

I am 61 and Canadian but came late to Blue Rodeo's catalogue. They are really catchy. Jim Cuddy has a great voice. My favourites by them are Diamond Mine and Til I Am Myself Again. You say you keep finding hidden Canadian gems well I keep trying to steer you to another gold mine of Canadian tunes. Once again I will ask, beg, for you to react to Canadian rock/pop band Max Webster. Once again I will ask that you begin with their classic uptempo rocker with the quirky lyrics, High Class In Borrowed Shoes. Please Nick and Ryan ... before I die. :)

That old school approach where they'll say a lot of words, pause for a couple of beats, and then all loudly say a word, or he says his words, drops out and let's the backers yell out a word together, is just so odd. Definitely places this in a specific time.

One of my minor (very minor) claims to "fame" is that I am good friends with one of his cousins. He was stunned when Rob exploded on the scene with this single. I think my friend is about 5 years older than Rob and had not had much contact with him for a couple of years at that point.

I am still waiting for the first American being able to listen to an entire song *before* starting to make comments - but I guess it's all part of American culture. Focusing on something for more than 30 seconds or so seems just impossible. Compare to reviewing a book - usually one reads the entire book first and then make the review instead of after each chapter. Oh well.

The were considered alternative. But the style for this particular song is sped up swing-jazz. It isn't blues. There's jazz and blues.

There is a big difference between a one hit wonder and gimmick songs. Everyone still loves a one hit wonder. NOBODY likes gimmicks. Got no problem with different, so long as they at least legitimate songs. Please stop with the awful joke songs, I can't even watch. :(

Yes it is not Disco, The one guy was right it the acoustic guitar went from folk to more of flamenco style, then to rythmn rock guitar. The drums are pretty much sped up jazz, the part you think is disco, then goes to a hard rock beat. Because of the multiple changes of style in this song, I would say it is early prog-rock. Funk did use similar jazz elements just at a different timing

I dont get it,the genuis of these session musos were indicative of what we listened to in the 70s,but unfortunately this quality has disappeared and some of the singers are plain and musically inept.

The very beginning Stevie says Gold Dust Woman dig your grave. Then the majority of the song is saying, did She make you cry, make you you break down. Like she engulfed the male as she becomes more of a hold and sucks him down with her.

As for Nick enjoying his ice cream before the recording session, I sure hope he might have offered some to Ryan. If not, then Ryan has the ability to not offer something he can share in the future. Those are the rules of friendship, whether one likes them or not. 🍨 😂 #NotSharingNotCaringTooColdTooCold

Orange crush refers to Agent Orange and Vietnam. It was a herbicides and they upped the potency. Because they dusted the vegetation, the American soldiers also came in contact with it. To this day Agent Orange has caused areas were nothing grows and is the ground water in Vietnam. And children are still being born with horrific birth defects. The American soldiers knew it was Chemical warfare, they were lied to and given pills that was supposed to counter act the damage. It didn't. They too were being on testing guinea pigs. The red pills where meth. Which became called the Spine. They also gave certain frontline ground troops LSD as well. The whole Vietnam War was a what they call real-time test. The US has done many real-time tests (experiments done on actual people, mostly their own without their knowledge or consent). I was in the Military in my country and we had to take Military Law and History and the codes sometimes used to let other countries know what level of warning they need to be at. Although they didn't use this specific code for Vietnam as it was one country against another war. But other situations, they use codes via the media to let other countries know what's going on. Real-time tests bizarrely have very obvious codes the use to name the event. Like 911. There are codes for lonewolf bombers, lone shootes, terrorists attacks, civil unrest, etc. And the actual real-time test/training or real-time experiments. It is to be used so that allies understand what is actually happening. And often non-allies because if it isn't a potential threat that can lead to war, they don't want their non-allies moving their threat level either.
